Main WP • June 29, 2020

How’s your superhero knowledge? For example, did you know that Superman is a vegetarian? That the Hulk was supposed to be grey, but since green looked so much better in print, the artist and publishers decided he needed to be the fierce green giant that he is today? What about Wonder Woman being made from clay and brought to life by the gods? Michael Jackson wanted to be cast as Spiderman?

If you knew these then you certainly have more knowledge of supers than I do! Great job!

Superheroes have been around since 1934. They are born within the pages and art of comic books and enjoyed by both the young and old. The earliest superhero was a magician known as Mandrake the Magician. He was followed by one of the most popular superheroes of all time: the one and only Superman!

Many of these comics were sold for just 10¢ – a good deal of money at the time! The value of these comic books have increased drastically since then. For example, the Action Comics #1 that introduced Superman to the world is the most prized piece of comic memorabilia has sold for over $3.2 million dollars at auction! It has also been found in an abandoned storage unit! Yes, that’s right: the first edition of Superman’s debut comic book was discovered in an abandoned storage unit in 2011.
