It’s a Desert … Sort of

Utah is considered an arid desert, including hot summers and cold winters. Because of this, people come from all over the world to participate in winter skiing. In 2002, the state hosted the Winter Olympics and unlike many other locations, has kept venues well maintained for tourists to enjoy. Having said this, it is still wise to stick to established ski routes, as the mountains can be subject to avalanches and landslides during wet-winter times.

The summers are really dry, so make sure to have your lotion handy, especially if you are more accustomed to humidity. There are many outdoor activities during the summer, so make sure to keep water on hand if you plan to be out during the day.

Historical Sites & Museums

Utah has a plethora of historical sites to explore. From the “This is the Place” monument to the Salt Palace (not made of salt!) to “Hobbitville,” to Temple Square, there is something for everyone to discover.

There are also several museums up and down the Wasatch Front. Some are more niche, like the John Hutchings Museum, though many are devoted to Utah heritage and ancient history. There are even children’s museums, like the Discovery Gateway which includes tons of hands-on activities encouraging children to explore science, art, and creativity.

One Long Stretch of Urban Landscaping

One of the unique aspects of Utah is that the cities blend together without feeling overpopulated. This is due to larger yard sizes and a grid-like system of streets and roads that keeps everything connected. While this mathematically inspired system is confusing to newcomers, it quickly becomes a great way to track how close you are to a location. If you are planning on moving here, make sure you understand how graphs systems work. It will save you a lot of time and confusion!

Diversified Job Market

Being a mostly urban landscape, the job market in Utah is not only flourishing but is also diverse. Whether you are a recent college graduate or established in a trade, you will be able to find something to suit your career path.
