Michael Jordan is an amazing athlete. During his 15 seasons and 6 championships, Michael has risen to the top of basketball fame to become a household name. He has had shoes named after him, starred in a 90’s live-action/animation movie Space Jam, purchased and managed a basketball team, broken several world and league records, is the only billionaire athlete, and received the 2016 Presidential medal of Freedom.
And he’s only 57 years old at the time of this blog post.
To say that Michael Jordan has accomplished a lot during 57 years is an understatement.
Much of his memorabilia is among the most sought-after items on the market today. His #23 card sold for over $41,000. Signed basketballs start at $6,000 each. And signed posters? These run anywhere between $4000 - $7000 a piece.
But what about something a little rarer? Say something like recruitment letters from his college days?
That is exactly what a man in North Carolina found when he purchased the contents of an abandoned storage unit. But how did one of the greatest athletes’ papers end up in storage? When a restaurant bearing Michael’s name opened in Chapel Hill, NC in 1999, Jordan gave the restaurant many items associated with his journey to become a professional basketball player. Unfortunately, the restaurant closed down in 2003 and all of the memorabilia went into a storage unit. Each letter holds an estimated value of $25,000 each.
