Spring cleaning can be overwhelming to some people, but it doesn’t have to be. At Towne Storage, we’re always offering our customers great tips on how to streamline the process, including many of the ideas below.
- Label everything! It’s amazing what a difference having a place for things can make. This includes bins, shelves, baskets, cabinet drawers, storage containers, and anything else that’s small enough to go somewhere. Even if you only make these labels temporary, identifying a place for each thing makes it easy to always be in the habit of getting things where they need to be.
- Discard or donate clutter away. Every room you deep clean should have a donate and discard pile as you go to make sure you’re not holding onto items you don’t actually need.
- Break your home down by room, and tackle each one with a “top to bottom” approach. This means you organize things on higher shelves and in higher drawers before working down until an entire room is finished. This gives you a clear starting and ending point and a way to mark your progress as you go.
- Follow a checklist. Whether you’re deep cleaning or organizing or both, make a list of objectives you want to achieve in each room that includes things like sorting, dusting, cleaning under pieces of furniture, washing fabrics, cleaning wallboards, and beyond.
- Deodorize rugs by sprinkling baking soda over them, then vacuum everything up 20 to 30 minutes later. A light water-and-vinegar mist spray that you let air dry can also do the trick.
- Wash your windows on a cloudy day instead of a bright, hot day as direct sunshine can cause newly washed windows to streak.
Along with such tips, when our clients have accumulated a pile of things they neither use regularly nor want to let go, they choose to store them with Towne Storage to help free up more organizational space throughout their homes and garages.
